Mount Vernon is the beneficiary of Freebo’s newest touring/recording project launch – Freebo, Maxwell & Howe. Most people in the international folk scene have not seen this show yet, but having seen each of these performers previously in her curated showcase rooms, Nancy Emrich Freeman recognized the strength of the individual performers and enticed them to Mount Vernon on the tour’s launch. A veteran of nearly everything in music, Freebo is now – also – a producer. And from the constant merry-go-round of new talent he picked out two BIG voices to produce: Alice Howe and Kriisten Maxwell. Each artist is a phenomenon in their own right – and so this is a block-buster super show! From small town PA, Freebo, chosen by Swarthmore College in the sixties, dropped out and left behind many athletic talents to concentrate on electric bass. In a flash he was chosen by Radcliffe-drop-out Bonnie Raitt to play fretless bass on her first album. The collaboration lasted over a decade and Freebo was launched as a tour and recording studio sideman to stars like John Mayall; Dr. John; Crosby, Stills & Nash; Maria Muldaur; and Ringo Starr. And then he became a guitar playing-singer/songwriter in his own right. A Kerrville New Folk Finalist, 2016 and Most Wanted Artist at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, 2017, Kirsten Maxwell's rise in the music scene has been one to watch, Based out of Long Island, NY, this singer/songwriter has been making a name for herself in the Northeast and beyond. Described as "making love to the audience", Kirsten's stage presence is undeniably endearing. She released her debut album in 2015, and has since opened for Melissa Etheridge, Bill Staines, Michael Johnson, Slaid Cleaves, and Vance Gilbert. Timeless and original, Boston singer-songwriter Alice Howe joins a soulful, impeccably tuned voice with crafted
poetry. A lifelong songwriter, Alice's musical sensibility lies in '60s folk and '70s Southern California
songwriters, with comparisons drawn to the pure, distilled sounds of Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. As a performer,
Alice is sure-footed and captivating, familiar to her audience from the very first song. A born New Englander and
Smith graduate, her career launched in Seattle for three years, and now she hails from Boston again. |
